Not an official safety service
Winter Map is an experimental visualization and research project. It is not an official avalanche warning service, mountain rescue service, weather authority, ski-area operator or navigation provider.
Never use Winter Map as the sole basis for travel, route selection or safety decisions in mountain terrain.
Snow and avalanche estimates
Snow condition and instability layers are mathematical estimates derived from forecast weather, terrain and modelled snowpack state. They can be incomplete, delayed, spatially inaccurate or wrong. A coloured pixel is not evidence that a slope is safe or unsafe.
Consult current official avalanche bulletins, local authorities, resort notices, mountain guides and direct field observations. Conditions may change faster than any forecast or cached map layer.
Map and route limitations
- Paths, lifts, webcams and operating statuses may be missing, outdated or incorrectly matched.
- Terrain elevation, slope, route length and vertical-drop values are estimates.
- Satellite and archive imagery may be old, seasonal, cloudy or geometrically imperfect.
- GPX import/export does not verify access rights, closures, hazards or route feasibility.
Availability
The service is provided free of charge and without guaranteed uptime, support, accuracy or preservation of user submissions. Features and data may change or disappear without notice. Scheduled model updates may fail or arrive late.

Acceptable use
Do not scrape the service at scale, circumvent rate limits, interfere with operation, attempt unauthorized access or use the service in a way that harms third parties. Public map data must be used in accordance with the licences and attribution requirements of its respective providers.
